Accelerated Reader
In school, if your child is on AR, they will be completing regular quizzes on their books. If they pass their quiz (score more than 60%) the amount of words in the book is added to their word count. The child’s word count is then totalled up and the children receive certificates in school linked to the amount of words they have read.
As well as reading at home with your children (recommended 10 minutes per day) you can also keep track of their quiz scores to support them in their reading journey.
You can access this by visiting our school website and following the steps below:
1. Click on children, then Accelerated Reader Quiz and Book Finder (or use the link below).
2. Click on ‘I am a student’ on the website and on the Renaissance website.
3. Log in using your child’s username and password in the front of their reading record.
4. Scroll right to the bottom and click on ‘get email updates’.
You will then receive an email report for each quiz your child takes.
Celebrating and rewarding your child for passing quizzes will encourage them to read more frequently and engage positively with reading.
If your child does not pass their quiz, they will be asked to keep the book and retake the quiz. At home, if the book is a short book you can read the book with them again that evening ready to retake the quiz. If the book is a longer book you can spend time discussing the book by summarising what happened and questioning your child about what happened in the text.
Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.
*Not all books are on AR and we do encourage reading a range of texts and reading for pleasure, as well as taking quizzes.
