Music
We recognise that music is an important part of the National Curriculum and has many benefits to pupils including, but not limited to, brain development; the understanding of maths; better social skills development; wellbeing and the development of confidence and resilience.
We aim to offer a broad and balanced music curriculum which allows children to progress their musical knowledge and skills throughout their life at Westwood Primary School. We endeavour to bring our school’s music offer in line with the National Plan for Music to make music accessible to all pupils, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, SEND, economic status or musical ability.
We offer co-curricular activities for children who are interested in music to develop their singing/instrumental abilities through peripatetic lessons and after school ensembles. Because our children often do not have access to high quality musical experiences in their everyday life, we need to offer such opportunities in school. By raising the profile of music, we hope that it will become part of the culture of our school.
