Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
Children in Year 1 thoughout the country will take part in a phonics screening check during the same week in June. Children complete a word-reading check that consists of 40 words. It usually takes about 5 minutes to test. If they do not manage to read 32 out of the 40 words, they are given extra support, and will repeat the check in year 2.
The 'pass' mark of 32 is subject to changre by the govenment and schools will be notified some time in June of this figure.
