At Westwood, we believe that every child should leave our school with the skills they need to communicate confidently in written form. We understand the role that reading plays in developing children’s written communication and our English curriculum uses quality texts to ensure children are exposed to ambitious and varied vocabulary and ideas. 

Our curriculum is designed to provide plenty of opportunities and contexts for children to practise their spoken language skills as well as the more technical side of writing - grammar, spelling and punctuation - so that they are well-equipped to write for a range of purposes using a variety of text types.
